SUMMER HAIKU
1
The buzzard's cry, cry
of emptiness. On soaring skies
sunborn specks unseen
2
Raising roots of spuds,
white orbs merging from the soil,
quiet happiness
3
In the glowing tent
of the laburnum tree, a trembling
of bees
4
Sudden flash of gold
through evening trees, the kestrel
hovers, vanishes
5
In the churchyard, here
behind the hedge, lie flowers
for the dead, dying
6
Raising roots of spuds,
pale orbs looming from the soil.
Quiet happiness
7
Sudden swathe of swifts
above my head, go screaming
high on summer skies
4
Sudden flash of gold
through evening trees, the kestrel
hovers, vanishes
5
In the churchyard, here
behind the hedge, lie flowers
for the dead, dying
6
Raising roots of spuds,
pale orbs looming from the soil.
Quiet happiness
7
Sudden swathe of swifts
above my head, go screaming
high on summer skies
